Jeffree Star, Polyphonic & Serengeti, Atmosphere, B.C. Shows!!!

So many shows this weekend!!! I mean seriously, a lotta shows!!!
Tonight at The Orpheum in Ybor City is the infamous myspace phenom Jeffree Star. The show is brought to Tampa by Daddy Kool/NoClubs and promises to be a gawk-fest for folks who like to watch potential car wrecks. Who knows what the guy will do at any moment?

Also tonight Tampa has a hip hop event goin on at Market On 7th in Ybor City. B.C. of Red Tide will be performing some new material from his debut solo EP "Time Pieces pt. 1 Time Capsule." (More on that later so stay tuned to kicks-n-jams for that) The show also features Anonymous, Mike Mass, D.P., DJ Qeys, & DJ Brother Caymen.AesPresents then brings Serengeti & Polyphonic to The Crowbar in Ybor City on Friday July 31st. They will be opening for Black Moth Super Rainbow (the band that opened up for Aesop Rock on his last tour) and The Soft Rock Renegades. S&P just dropped a new album "Terradactyl" on Anticon that is getting these two Chicago hip hop heads some much deserved indie attention. I think this show has been an under-the-radar event (I haven't seen a flyer for it) but should be really really fun.

And finally, the almighty Atmosphere will be performing alongside Eyedea & Abilities (they have a new album "By The Throat" on Rhymesayers Ent.), Attracted To Gods, and B.C. (that kid is everywhere!!) on Saturday August 1st at The State Theatre in St. Pete. The show is co-promoted by Daddy Kool/NoClubs and...ME under my Peripheral Records/Hip Hop Flavors Radio banner! Tix are still available at DaddyKool Tix. So get 'em while you still can!!
So there you have it. An absolute ton of good live shows for you to go see this weekend. No excuses! Don't be lame!! Go see at least one of them ya little monsters!!!

Jean-Michel Basquiat X Reebok Top Down models

Reebok continues their tribute collections to the late great Jean-Michel Basquiat with a couple of new sneaker releases showcasing the sportswear brand’s Top Down model. The kicks are given the Basquiat treatment with the use of the artists signature paintings printed on the uppers and contrasted with leather accents. The release is just a part of the Fall 2009 Collection which will see further inspired kicks. Both are now available via colette. I really loved the Julian Schnabel directed Basquiat bio-pic that came out '96 starring Jeffrey Wright as the titular artist/empresario. I still watch that film whenever it shows up on TV.

Kid Sister Finally Set To Release Debut Album!!!!

Kid Sister's long awaited debut album is finally getting a release date!!! "Ultraviolet" is set to drop on Downtown Records October 6th.

When Kid Sister (aka Melisa Young) turned in her album, originally titled "Dream Date," in September of 2008, she pulled a daring move and asked Downtown to hold off on releasing it. "There were a few things about the album that irked me...the album wasn't cohesive", Young told Pitchfork in an interview earlier this year. Downtown allowed her some time to make the album what she wanted, and she went back to work with executive producer A-Trak and the rest of the creative team behind Fool's Gold. The result is the stunning "Ultraviolet." The album includes production by some of the most sought after, cutting edge producers working today (including A-Trak, Rusko, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso, Sinden, XXXChange, Brian Kennedy, Herve, Yuksek and DJ Gant-Man) who all seem to have recognized the talent and star power that also motivated Kanye West to collaborate with her on 2007's Pro Nails single, helping in part to create the deafening buzz that surrounds her now. The album is 12 songs deep, with each track being mixed seamlessly into the next, creating a continuous mix of songs that contain an innovative approach to their perfectly honed pop sensibilities.

Tracklisting:
1. Right Hand Hi <--- Download
2. Life On TV
3. Daydreaming
4. Let Me Bang 2009
5. Big n Bad
6. Pro Nails (feat. Kanye West)
7. Step (feat. Estelle)

Fresh New Sneaker Wolf X New Balance collabo "Metal Footers"

Mita sneakers drops a scintillating collaboration between Sneaker Wolf and New Balance. A new MT576V (v stands for velcro), called the Metal Footers. Designed by mita’s principle designer who goes by the name Sneaker Wolf, the Metal Footers constitute 2 design concepts – the prototype (exclusive to mita sneakers) nature of the MT576 series and Japan’s fascinations with robotics. In creating the elaborate network of “illustrated pipes”, the graphics adorning the forefoot and portion of the rear, Sneaker Wolf applied free hand illustrations first before each wass laser-etched by machine. The graphic also repeats itself on the sockliner, along with a Sneaker Wolf caricature motif.

The matte grey, metallic silver mita sneakers x sneaker wolf x New Balance MT576V Metal Footers Edition will be available at few selected retailers around the world on Saturday, July 11th. Meanwhile, mita sneakers is currently accepting pre-launch purchases on it website.

. Retailing for ¥18,900 (Approx. $197 USD), they're now available at the mita Japan online store.

A-trak & Treasure Fingers Last Night In Tampa

The Fool's Gold 10,00 LB HamburgerTour came through last night. Good Times! Sometimes I wonder about Tampa though. Because in my head this show shoulda been absolutely jam packed to the rafters with people. It wasn't and that is more an indictment of Tampa than it is of the performers because despite the absence of Rye Rye, who I was really stoked to see, Treasure Fingers (from ATL) and A-trak absolutely killed it! Go check out Treasure Finger's site and myspace and soundcloud for some dope remixes of his. Props to THX Mgmt., Reax and Pulp for putting this together.
Here's some pics.

Yep, I'm a Huge Nerd

This rules!

New balance 2010 sneak peaks

New Balance presents some interesting styles for Spring/Summer 2010, both in terms of colors and in terms of materials. The New Balance 150 comes in some great looks next year, especially interesting for people that like it a little more colorful. But on the classic end the brand also delivers and in terms of materials it will get a little more technical, which is nice to see. via hypebeast

Royce Da 5'9"

Here is a new track while Royce preps the release of his highly-anticipated “Street Hop” LP, (due out on September 22nd), executive-produced by DJ Premier. That release has already generated overwhelming critical accolades alone with the release of street-singles “Shake This” and “Part Of Me” and the forthcoming self-titled debut LP from Bi-Coastal conglomerate Slaughterhouse (Royce 5’9, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz & Crooked I) on this summer.

As if that wasn't enough from the hip hop worlds foremost proponent of Patron sippin'...Royce will first be dropping a Digital only four song EP entitled “The Revival.” “The Revival” will be released on July 7th and will include new tracks from Royce’s “Street Hop” LP along with a new Slaughterhouse track and will be available at all major digital retailers. "Gun Harmonizing" (produced by Emile) is the first leak from Royce's "The Revival" EP.

The King is Dead, Long Live The King

Yep, Michael Jackson, The King Of Pop, has died. I am surprised to admit that I was actually choked up when I found out. I was at the gym on a treadmill, minding my own business and listening to the DNAE Beats Mixtape "There's a Wormhole In My Bathroom." As the news came in across the multiple television screens lined up in front of the workout machines I realized that my pulse had risen for a reason that had nothing to do with a cardio workout. I had to brush away tears. In that room full of testosterone I was grateful to be sweating so as not to appear soft in front of the Golds Gymrats. I've always considered myself more of a Prince fan than a Michael fan and generally identified with all things NOT pop throughout the 80's. But there is no doubt that Jackson and his family have had an idelible impact on American culture and, as such, have quietly made an impact on my life that I wasn't entirely aware of until the moment that he passed away. Perhaps it's my age or the recent birth of my first child but I couldn't help but think of my own mortality. This man was a cultural icon before I was born and remained one, despite all the sublime and horrifying elements of his personal life, right up until the day that he died. He had a Disney ride for God's sake!! Rest In Peace Michael Jackson. There will never be another like you.

Slaughterhouse's Self Titled Debut Album Drops August 11th

Check out this new track by my new favorite super group!
SLAUGHTERHOUSE (Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9", Joell Ortiz and Crooked I).
So if you know me just a little you know that Royce Da 5'9" is one of my favorite emcees. Dude just flows nice on everything he ever touches. Same can be said about Joell Ortiz who has been on my radar for a looong time. Just those two cats alone are what I wish Hip Hop stood behind in the oh nine. Complex rhymes schemes, legitimate and cohesive freestyle ability, storytelling, battle rhyming, and just all around confidence and mic control. Prototypical emcees...to me anyway. Same can be said from a West Coast perspective about Crooked I. Flow, battle skills, swagger. Notice that nobody ever really steps to these cats with anything but respect. Then in comes Joe Budden who is the wild card in the group. Dude can and will say anything with a microphone in front of him. It seems to get him into a lotta hot water but he can also back it up with ferocious skills.
"Woodstock Hood Hop" produced by Nottz and featuring MOP is what I got for you.
Look out for Slaughterhouse on this summer's Rock The Bells Tour.
Also check out their self titled LP "SLAUGHTERHOUSE"
dropping August 11th on Slaughterhouse/ Koch Records.

Cookbook Drops "I Love The 80's" For Free!!

Cali-based emcee and producer Jason Soto aka CookBook is proud to announce his newest release and romp through the past, "I Love the 80's". CookBook weaves movie references, synthesizers, techno dance sounds—alotta the greatest elements of the 80s—to create a celebration of a time known for aerobics and “The Breakfast Club.” Believe me when I tell ya that you're gonna recognize the tracks and samples. (Probably the reason that this is being given away for free if you ask me.)

Most people know CookBook as a member of the super rap collective LA Symphony. In 1999, the group’s critically acclaimed debut album, "Composition No. 1," thrust them into the national spotlight. Since then, they’ve released five full-lengths, and two EPs. The last release they had was "Unleashed" in 2007. And though the group is still together, CookBook and fellow LAS member UNO Mas have been busy in the studio working on several projects of their own.

"I Love the 80's" is far less a thug-homage to the decade than Prodigy’s recent "Product of the 80s"…CookBook’s style is lighter and quirkier, and the rhymes effortlessly weave in and out of 80s nostalgia. With tracks like “Die Hard,” “Molly Ringwald,” “Inner Space,” and “Growing Pains”, Cookbook uses colorful 80s-inspired samples and clever rhymes to successfully declare his love for the 80s. Slap on your neon and jogging suits, lace up your Reeboks, and get ready for a trip back in time—CookBook style! For fans of Pigeon John, the 80's, and good hip hop!!

The real dope thing about this release is that Cookbook is giving the whole thing to you for FREE!!!

sphereofhiphop.com has "I Love The 80's" available for free download right now. Go over there and check out this record! Do this IMMEDIATELY!!! Tell 'em kicks-n-jams and DJ lazy sent ya!

Keelay and Zaire Video F/ Nightclubber Lang

This video for the track "Slick Talk" off Keelay & Zaire's "Prelude To Drive" features cameos from Kee & Zee in the flesh, but the star of the picture is industry veteran known to some as Nightclubber Lang of The Boom Bap Project, and known to others as Karim Panni, founder of MYX Music Label. The video showcases the three at spots all around New York City, with backdrops of the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, underground scenes at the 57th street subway stop, and visits to local record stores as Nightclubber spits his slick talkin' rhymes.

The Movie isn't due until March 2010 but these photos that were just released have me ready to line up for a ticket right now! That Helena Bonham Carter pic is just eerie.

Trick Love Da Kids!!! "This The Shit that I Live" single

I don't care what people think. I've always been down with Trick Daddy. I was the only white boy in the club when he came to Sarasota and a riot popped off during his set. Cats were jumping over the bar and grabbing the cash registers! Even before all that happened he was a real cool guy. Took time to chat with me in the DJ booth and was just basically a really down to earth kinda person. This was before "You Don't Know Nann," before mainstream fame really hit him. He was just a hood star with huge street cred and in my opinion he still carries himself that way. To me "Dro in The Wind" with Cee-lo is still a summertime Florida anthem. And my favorite, blow the club up, track of all time from him is (of course) "Let's Go" ft Lil John and Twista. So here is his brand new single "This The Shit That I live" off the new album "Finally Famous" so rock that shit!!!!
