B.C. Drops "Time Pieces pt 1 Time Capsule" EP Oct. 13
Combining complex metaphor, time travel, scintillating lyrical gymnastics, anime, radical politics and an apocryphal-dystopian comic book aesthetic, Red Tide member and Florida MC, BC, The Black Child, delivers his solo debut, the first of a three part conceptual album, "Time Pieces."
"Time Pieces" is a temporal travelogue, a sonic cultural history, and a riveting manifesto about Pop World, told by a dark messenger from the future, stranded in time, and compelled to deliver a grim warning about what is coming. From the fetid gutters of the ruined surface to the gleaming hover cars of the elite class, nothing has escaped the singular vision of the chrono-archeologist. But can his frantic, coded messages be delivered and translated in time? Like a stone skipping across the pond of history each warning ripples out, sometimes scrambled, often difficult to decipher. A harbinger, without a home, out of time, can his message be heard...
The concept for "Time Pieces" has been incubating in the rhyme book of BC for some time now. Its first chapter, "Time Capsule" finally came to fruition this year (2009) in a time when it couldn't be more relevant. "Time Capsule" serves as the skeleton for BC's imaginary Pop World which will be fleshed out in chapters 2 and 3, "The Surface" and "The Sky." The production on "Time Capsule" was mainly done by a cast of collaborators from BC's home town of Tampa, Florida. Mudd Buddha, Vincent Saletto, and Red Tide member Lazy all contributed to the tracks that give the EP its otherworldly sound. Lyrically the EP features strong cameos by former Florida MC Surreal (Surreal and the Sound Providers) and Red Tide founding member, Skoolz; however, its most outstanding feature is on the song "Ode to Gil Scott-Heron" on which poet/MC Saul Williams delivers a powerful second verse. Other outstanding tracks include "This is Not a Song," with its fast paced delivery combined with social commentary, and "Pop World" the eerie vision of BC's future planet. "Time Pieces” Pt. 1 “Time Capsule" releases on Peripheral Records, October 13, 2009. It will be available digitally through Domination Records, CD Baby, ITunes, Amazon, and most other digital outlets. CDs will be available through www.thepopworld.com.
Stay tuned for remixes from: B.Rich, Thavius Beck, Mum's the Word, Mochipet, Aetoms, Bomarr, Matt B, & Soultech

Jern Eye "Blowin' Up" ft Roc C & Nightclubber Lang
It's a transcontinental joint that caps off Jern Eye's upcoming release, "Vision," as the Oakland-based emcee grabs a classic Notorious B.I.G. sample for the hook. World famous DJ Vinroc, who serves as a part of crews Triple Threat and 5th Platoon, steps in on the production side laying a strong foundation for Jern Eye to celebrate the long struggle of a career that has lead up to this, his forthcoming sophomore solo album, "Vision." Guest emcees Roc C and Nightclubber Lang of The Boom Bap Project drop verses that recognize their similar experiences, and for Jern Eye the song serves as a great opportunity to work with the two fellow emcees on his album. Check out this and the first fourteen tracks of "Vision," out October 13 via MYX Music Label.

DJ Class "I'm The Shit" Video
!llmind Releases Official Remix Album
While some lucky fans were able to snag a free copy at select Rock The Bells, MYX Music Label, 2dopeboyz, NahRight, OkayPlayer, Audible Treats , and Kicks-n-Jams are pleased to finally present !llmind's Official Remix Album. No stranger to making head nodding production, !llmind's latest effort showcases how he can flip any song and still shine as if he was the original producer. The official remix album is mixed by DJ Icewater (of The Pharcyde) and boasts 18 exclusive remixes featuring an eclectic array of artists from Common, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, The Roots, and Masta Ace to John Legend, Slum Village, and many more. Also included are four exclusive tracks from !llmind's own group, Fortilive (!llmind, Slo-Mo, and Mushmouf).
Musically, !llmind's Official Remix Album works perfectly to display the producer's skills. Each song smoothly transitions into the next while showcasing !llmind's ability to span a wide variety of musical genres. Common's "I Want You Remix" navigates from a scratch heavy intro to a melodic chorus with congas and guitar licks rounding out the beat, while the stabbing bassline and in-the-pocket drum programming of John Legend's "Ordinary People Remix" undoubtedly brings up J-Dilla nostalgia. While the The Official Remix Album features a number of mainstream aritsts, !llmind makes sure not to stray too far from hip-hop's roots, including the "Conflict Remix," featuring rhyme veterans Masta Ace and Guru of seminal rap group Gangstarr. The album ends with a bang - four bangs to be exact - as !llmind premiers a series of exclusive Fortilive tracks in anticipation of their forthcoming 2010-scheduled debut album.

Deep Rooted Drop Self Titled Album "D.E.E.P.R.O.O.T.E.D."
On the latest track from their recent self-titled release, soul/hip-hop sextet Deep Rooted recruited veteran producer Exile to assist with the group's eclectic sound. The result was the track "Closer" - a perfect example of Deep Rooted's new "feel good" hip-hop music. Exile does his job in creating a beat well suited for the group, as he mixes handclap backbeats with soulful guitar lines and gospel organ. Verses from Johaz and Mr. Brady have an edge that contrasts with the laid back groove, but singer Just Brea brings everything together, providing a chorus that soulfully melds each section together. Look for "Closer" and more tracks from "D.E.E.P. R.O.O.T.E.D.," available via Clear Label Records (run by Tajai of Souls of Mischief & Hieroglyphics fame).
You can pick up the album on itunes for cheap so go do it!!

R.I.P. John Hughes
'80s teen flick director John Hughes dies in NYC
By HILLEL ITALIE (AP)
NEW YORK — Writer-director John Hughes, Hollywood's youth impresario of the 1980s and '90s who captured the teen and preteen market with such favorites as "Home Alone," "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," died Thursday, a spokeswoman said. He was 59.
Hughes died of a heart attack during a morning walk in Manhattan, Michelle Bega said. He was in New York to visit family.
A native of Lansing, Mich., who later moved to suburban Chicago and set much of his work there, Hughes rose from ad writer to comedy writer to silver screen champ with his affectionate and idealized portraits of teens, whether the romantic and sexual insecurity of "Sixteen Candles," or the J.D. Salinger-esque rebellion against conformity in "The Breakfast Club."
Hughes' ensemble comedies helped make stars out of Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and many other young performers. He also scripted the phenomenally popular "Home Alone," which made little-known Macaulay Culkin a sensation as the 8-year-old accidentally abandoned by his vacationing family, and wrote or directed such hits as "National Lampoon's Vacation," "Pretty in Pink," "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" and "Uncle Buck."
Other actors who got early breaks from Hughes included John Cusack ("Sixteen Candles"), Judd Nelson ("The Breakfast Club"), Steve Carell ("Curly Sue") and Lili Taylor ("She's Having a Baby").
Devin Ratray, best known for playing Buzz McCallister in the "Home Alone" films, said he remained close to Hughes over the years.
"He changed my life forever," Ratray said. "Nineteen years later, people from all over the world contact me telling me how much 'Home Alone' meant to them, their families, and their children."
Actor Matthew Broderick worked with Hughes in 1986 when he played the title character in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."
"I am truly shocked and saddened by the news about my old friend John Hughes. He was a wonderful, very talented guy and my heart goes out to his family," Broderick said.
As Hughes advanced into middle age, his commercial touch faded and, in Salinger style, he increasingly withdrew from public life. His last directing credit was in 1991, for "Curly Sue," and he wrote just a handful of scripts over the past decade. He was rarely interviewed or photographed.
Associated Press writers Amy Westfeldt, Doug Rowe and Mike Kuchwara contributed to this report.
Here is an interesting article on Hughes and his effect on pop culture and modern movie making.
Tools "What's Da Prob?" Single
"What's Da Prob?" is the first single off of emcee Tools' new album "Crushed Ice." Now if there was ever a time to NOT judge a book by it's cover this is it. Tools looks like your standard ice obsessed, gun claiming, female disrespecting, New York Thug rapper (i.e. any diplomat affiliated emcee except for J.R. Writer). It may be the case that Tools discusses materialism, guns, and women but his spin both softens the impact and amplifies the effect. In fact it may be that Tools resembles J.R. Writer more than any other emcee. He has interesting flow, an emotive delivery and his beat selection is leaps and bounds more interesting than many emcees who work in the same style. "What's Da Prob?" rides the old school Beastie Boys beat from "Paul Revere" with a new school approach.
Born in Liberia, West Africa, Tools Beastly started listening to hip hop at an early age. When he was 12 civil war broke out and his family fled to Sierra Lione eventually sacrificing everything they had and moved to the United States. This kind of history obviously influences his approach. Check out the video and take a listen to an underground emcee who you haven't heard of yet but who deserves your attention. "Crushed Ice" drops on HardTimes Records August 25th.

Jern Eye Announces Release of New Album "Vision"
On October 13th, West coast emcee Jern Eye will drop his sophomore solo LP, "Vision." The album, which features production from Jake One, !llmind, and Keelay & Zaire, and collaborations with Guilty Simpson, Mistah F.A.B., Zion I, Cali Agents, and NightClubber Lang, will be available October 13th via MYX Music Label.
At a time when many albums are little more than a collection of randomly pieced together, unrelated songs, the art of crafting an album is often overlooked. For "Vision," a title referencing the concept of stripping down illusions in order to share artistic expression and feeling, creating a cohesive album was the main focus for Jern Eye, and one of the biggest progressions for Jern as an artist since his debut album. Jern says, "In comparison to my previous release "Authentic Vintage," I think "Vision" is more self aware. I just appreciate being a little older, and seeing my music in perspective. I think refusing to compromise what I really love about hip-hop reflects on how I made this album." With three years between albums, that artistic maturity will finally be on display as "Vision" is prepared for release October 13th.
Despite the list of stellar guest emcees, Jern's presence remains dominant throughout "Vision," as witnessed on the album's lead single, "So And So," produced by MYX's own Keelay & Zaire and featuring Guilty Simpson. In creating the album, the music was the driving force, as Jern crafted the album's sound, spending nights with new beats from go to producers Jake One, !llmind, and more, searching for the right sounds to allow Jern's message to hold the foreground of "Vision." Jern says, "With this new record, it was all about beat selection in order to capture certain vibes or backdrops I wanted. So, in essence, each song has intent whether it's obvious or not. Sonically, I think I captured the album I wanted to deliver. I'm not big into doing anything super out there. I made an album that real hip-hop will like."
A Los Angeles native, Jern Eye began crafting his skills early on at freestyle battles in famous L.A. clubs. Forming the west coast staple group, Lunar Heights with friend and fellow emcee Spear Of The Nation shortly after high school, the group eventually migrated north to Oakland to join the Bay Area's flourishing independent hip-hop scene. Once in the Bay, the group was joined by Khai Sharrieff, as they began making a name for themselves, opening for a number of groups, including Crown City Rockers, The Pharcyde, The Procussions, and more. The group subsequently released their solo effort, "Crescent Moon" to high acclaim. Jern followed three years later with his solo debut, "Authentic Vintage" in 2006, touring with Heiroglyphics and Living Legends as a result of the album's success. "Vision" will be available October 13th via MYX Music Label.

Dudley Perkins "Holy Smokes" Drops On E1 formerly Koch Records
Hailing from Oxnard, California and beyond, Dudley Perkins (rap moniker Declaime) gained critical acclaim for collaborating with fellow Oxnardian heavyweights such as Madlib, Oh No, and Kankick. His raw commentary is known for being deeply rooted in funk and feel good grooves of yesteryear while maintaining today’s edgy truths of love and war.
"HOLY SMOKES" is his latest release with Georgia Anne Muldrow behind the boards and is named aptly so- its swirling organs, gut-wrenching concepts and hard hitting rhythms are bound to astound you. On "Holy Smokes," Perkins continues in his quest for self discovery and questions the universe at large.
Perkins debuted on the hip hop scene in 1995 on Tha Alkaholiks’ album "Coast II Coast" as Declaime. His debut full-length, "Andsoitisaid" (produced by Madlib) followed in 2001. In 2004, "Conversations with Dudley," an album that bridged his two musical identities (that of Declaime and Dudley Perkins) came out. Stones Throw released "A Lil Light" in 2003 and "Expressions (2012 A.U.)" in 2006. Perkins and Georgia Anne Muldrow joined forces for 2007’s "G&D" on Look Records.
The video for “Sally” has had close to a million views on You Tube.

Kid Sister Finally Set To Release Debut Album!!!!
Kid Sister's long awaited debut album is finally getting a release date!!! "Ultraviolet" is set to drop on Downtown Records October 6th.
When Kid Sister (aka Melisa Young) turned in her album, originally titled "Dream Date," in September of 2008, she pulled a daring move and asked Downtown to hold off on releasing it. "There were a few things about the album that irked me...the album wasn't cohesive", Young told Pitchfork in an interview earlier this year. Downtown allowed her some time to make the album what she wanted, and she went back to work with executive producer A-Trak and the rest of the creative team behind Fool's Gold. The result is the stunning "Ultraviolet." The album includes production by some of the most sought after, cutting edge producers working today (including A-Trak, Rusko, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso, Sinden, XXXChange, Brian Kennedy, Herve, Yuksek and DJ Gant-Man) who all seem to have recognized the talent and star power that also motivated Kanye West to collaborate with her on 2007's Pro Nails single, helping in part to create the deafening buzz that surrounds her now. The album is 12 songs deep, with each track being mixed seamlessly into the next, creating a continuous mix of songs that contain an innovative approach to their perfectly honed pop sensibilities.
Tracklisting:
1. Right Hand Hi <--- Download
2. Life On TV
3. Daydreaming
4. Let Me Bang 2009
