Holy shit! I think I just had a brain aneurysm...

He never really left. The man behind plantlife, the unarguable genesis of the falsetto soul funk revival popularized by pharell, Snoop, Cee-lo and other pop stars is finally puttin' it down for his again. I for one couldn't be happier. Jack Splash has been the quiet superstar behind a ton of tracks in pop music over the last couple years. He's now back to doin his own thing with the "technology and love might save us all" full length coming this spring on J Records. He is notoriously bad at keeping up to date on the internet (I don't think plantlife ever had a myspace or a website lol). But this guys music is undeniably the future and unrepentantly iconoclastic. Equal parts funk and electronics, sweaty soul and cool computer. "King Of the Beats Vol. 1" is the first taste to get the world ready for the album. It drops this week and if you have any funk in your soul you'll pick it up.
Not really sure that this is absolutely accurate as I missed doing a few playlists this year but it is pretty close. BC, Blue Scholars, Pantyraid and anything affiliated with the glitch mob were among the most played artists.

Hard to believe that the SPoT is 17 years old!!! The boys have put together a tremendous weekend that is gonna include the usual cavalcade of pro skaters, models and troublemakers. This year the featured artist is Del The Funky Homosapien!!!! He will be playing a show with special guests El Ten Eleven and B.C. on Dec 4th at Czar in Ybor City. The show flyer is by neckface by the way...

AesPresents then brings Serengeti & Polyphonic to The Crowbar in Ybor City on Friday July 31st. They will be opening for Black Moth Super Rainbow (the band that opened up for Aesop Rock on his last tour) and The Soft Rock Renegades. S&P just dropped a new album "Terradactyl" on Anticon that is getting these two Chicago hip hop heads some much deserved indie attention. I think this show has been an under-the-radar event (I haven't seen a flyer for it) but should be really really fun.
So there you have it. An absolute ton of good live shows for you to go see this weekend. No excuses! Don't be lame!! Go see at least one of them ya little monsters!!!
A new New Balance - Jeff Staple 575 colorway is set to drop called the “White Pigeon”. The dark gray upper is exchanged in favor of white/off-white with the same fresh pink color themed after pigeon's feet. A release date is set for August.

Reebok continues their tribute collections to the late great Jean-Michel Basquiat with a couple of new sneaker releases showcasing the sportswear brand’s Top Down model. The kicks are given the Basquiat treatment with the use of the artists signature paintings printed on the uppers and contrasted with leather accents. The release is just a part of the Fall 2009 Collection which will see further inspired kicks. Both are now available via colette. I really loved the Julian Schnabel directed Basquiat bio-pic that came out '96 starring Jeffrey Wright as the titular artist/empresario. I still watch that film whenever it shows up on TV.
