Spear of the Nation Drops "Spearitalk" Sept. 11th

Hey folks! Hope everybody had a good weekend. I just got a new album from the ladies over at NatAural High in San Francisco, CA. "Spearitalk" by Lunar Height's emcee Spear of the Nation.

Continuing to build on the foundation of Oakland's hip hop trinity Lunar Heights, emcee Spear of the Nation is dropping a solo hip hop album on Sept. 11th. What does this educator, foot soldier, and rap tycoon want to talk about? Production masterminds Aristotle the Great and DJ Icewater have mapped it out. Bay Area producer Aristotle the Great aka Aries has coined the term "Boom Slap." When you hear the music you'll know what he means.

NatAural High has dropped some hot albums and 12"s in the last few years.

Nike SB Blazer Shogo at the skatepark of tampa

I'm heading over to The Skate Park Of Tampa today to check out the Nike SB Blazer "Shogo" aka "Lordless Warrior." The upper is canvas, suede and ostrich leather on the swoosh. I'm diggin' the stipples and texture on the swoosh and the overall interesting use of materials on this one. That together with some nice bio-hazard and bird graphics and the red stitching makes it one of the nicer SB releases of the summer.

Ubiq X Batman Fatima collabo

The Ubiq crew from Japan is once again up to something special. They now released the info on Zozo about their upcoming Batman x Ubiq Fatima collaboration. There are two versions - one colorful version and one black/white version. For Batman fans and sneaker fans this is definitely something special. The sneakers also come in special packaging.

New Balance 670 "Red Devil"

New Balance seems to be getting back to simple clean designs lately after the spate of high concept drops in 2007 (fish, stingrays, comics etc.) Don't get me wrong, I love all those releases but there is something to be said for a simple, high quality material, shoe that really pops. The New Balance "Red Devil" is just that shoe. Black premium leathers, red suede and a patent heel all come together to deliver a sweet kick.

Sweet New Balance 1400's for '08

These Beautiful 1400’s are due out late January and will set you back about $150. These tier 1 styles were put together by the ST33 Team but should still be easy to find for those who are looking. All three in this series offer a mix of premium smooth and suede leather, gum soles, and a 3M highlights. Check the runner silhouette in the toes of these beauties. The purple seems to be popping up a lot lately.

Prince Paul & Bernie Worrell are Baby Elephant

He's at it again!! Prince Paul proves once again that there are no limits for his expansive creativity. I just found out that he has teamed up with funk musician BERNIE WORRELL to form a new group BABY ELEPHANT. Prince Paul (known for producing De La Soul's "3 Feet High and Rising." "Handsome Boy Modelling School," the Pootie Tang soundtrack, "A Prince Among Thieves," Stetsa-sonic, Gravediggaz, MC Paul Barman, and tons more) met Worrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads and more) while the latter was promoting his documentary, Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth.

The two found they shared similar interests and decided to create the funk/soul group, Baby Elephant. They brought in Newkirk (longtime Prince P collaborator) and the trio set about making an album. Of course Paul never just works alone! For this project he called on a buncha funk revolutionaries including: David Byrne, George Clinton, Yellowman, Shock G, Nona Hendryx, DJ Roc Raida, Reggie Watts, Gabby La La and more.

Worrell, a New Jersey native, has created sonics that over the years have become the foundation for the West Coast Hip Hop sound (see Dr. Dre's "The Chronic"). It seems fitting that an East Coast producer has brought Worrell's sounds back home.

Prince Paul says, "He's an accomplished musician and I'm some b-boy cat. I don't want people to think it's like some hip-hop beats over him playing. We're trying to invent something." Baby Elephant will release their debut LP, "Turn My Teeth Up" on Sept 11th 2007 on God Forsaken Music. You better pick this one up when it comes out.

New Balance Ndividual Released

Ok, I'm kinda on the fence about these new kicks from New Balance

They are part of the New Balance Fall/Winter 07/08 collection and have been released across Europe. Matching your clothes, the "N" logo can be exchanged and replaced with others in several colorways, which are attached to the sneaker via velcro. The first season of Ndividual 574's come in three colorways - black, white and brown. Each sneaker comes with three "N" logos and 3 pairs of laces in the same colors as the "N" logos.

Personally I think they coulda given some better materials (3m reflective maybe) and color ways because the three color ways so far are kinda blah. I really like the idea and I was a lot more excited about the limited edition collabos they initially did with Foot Patrol and Gimme 5.

Pro-Keds releases Graf inspired shoe

I'll admit that for the most part I couldn't give much of a fuck about pro-keds.

Can't lie.

But that being said, ever since they were bought by Dame Dash of Roc-a-fella records and roc-a-wear fame they have at least started to be a little more interesting with shoe concepts.

A perfect example of this new found concept quality is the Royal Hi Graf. It features a dope old school all-over graffiti design and comes in black or white.

CAMP LO returns with "BLACK HOLLYWOOD" dropping July 24th

That's right ya little monstas!! Camp Lo is back and better than ever! Geechi Suede and Sonny Cheeba appeared in the 90's with the seminal "Luchini (this is it what)" and proceeded to blaze clubs and mixtapes nationwide. Then just like disco in the 70's they disappeared overnight.

The album "Black Hollywood" is out on Goodhands Records and is their first album in 5 years. They blazed a hot guest spot on the recent Lifesavas album "Gutterfly" (one of my favorite albums of early 2007) and now they are dropping their own heat. "We’re giving the listeners something they don't know they are missing yet,” Sonny Cheeba told HipHopGame.com “The fans that have been looking for that sound and can't find it, this is where it’s at.”

For real, go out and cop this album! Few hip hop artists deliver that authentic 70's style sleazed up funk like Camp Lo. Don't believe me? Check out the track...

The Faculty releases "Phar From Home" Sept. 11

Yep, another release on the 11th of september. Another dope group, another hot single, another strong album. How can all these records get the attention they deserve if they all come out at the same time?!?

Hopefully you all check out this Oxnard, Cali based crew, The Faculty. The album features production by the always impressive Jake One. You might be familiar with The Faculty through their consistent releases over the last few years featuring Wild Child and production by Vitamin D, Da Beatminerz, Oh No, and more.

If not then you should get learned with "He's Mine." The first single off their album, "Phar from Home." It's a strong and heartfelt assertion about the importance of father's stepping up and taking responsibility for raising their children.

Panacea drops "The Scenic Route" sept. 4th

From washington, D.C., Panacea is Raw Poetic (emcee) & K-Murdock (producer). Their first album "ink is my drink" was a solid offering from new and upcoming label Glow In The Dark Records. Now they've teamed with both GitD and Rawkus Records (yep they're part a that rawkus 50 ridiculousness) for their sophomore release, "The Scenic Route." The new album offers more of the same insightful lyrical delivery along with a fully fleshed out and forward thinking production that places the duo in the same category as acts like NowOn & The Sol.illaquists of Sound. The group is not afraid to move away from the dogmatic underground affiliation with "that ole boom bap" and often dips into different rhythms and tempos throughout the album. I especially like the production on "Between Earth and Sky." Of course Raw Poetic's conversational delivery and multi faceted themes does lend itself to labels like "conscious" and "underground" but there is no denying that they can bring the feel good vibes and anthems that any music lover is gonna enjoy.

P.Casso "Thinkin A Lot" single

Hip hop has exhausted its formula. The old mold is waiting to be broken. And as MCs tire out the same words, the dead rhymes and store-bought beats, they are preparing the hip hop world for P.casso. In Buffalo, New York, while other MCs hardened the genre, Cristal by pistol, P.casso was reaching into the past, pulling up rap from its roots and reshaping it for himself.

Meanwhile other MCs rhymed Bacardi with party. In “Thinkin A lot” P.casso is explicit when he flips the conventions of hip hop around: “Since hip hop is a reflection of streets/ That only means you’re a reflection of me.” In the future, the definition of hip hop comes from P.casso. And the future is now.

New Balance X Concepts 576 Colabo arrived!!!!!

Just arrived and they are Carraaazzzyyyy!!! Shiny patent leather on the back and a sorta snake skin leather on the toebox. Reflctive material on the tongue and the "N" logo. Plus I picked up the exclusive Concepts T. The Back Says "since "96" and the tongue of the kicks are embroidered with the greek symbols for 1996. A very nice shoe and Biggup to the cats at Concepts for being so easy to work with over the phone!

Atmosphere brings Sad Clown Bad Summer Vol 9

Sad Clown Bad Summer Vol 9, Accompanied by Piano is the latest release from Atmosphere. Designed specifically to whet our appetite for their 6th studio album, "When Life Gives You Lemons..." the Sad Clown EP features the track "Sunshine" that has been all over the net already as well as a few other gems. The bad dubs used to only be available at Atmosphere shows but Rhymesayers has released this one just because they love you little emo-hoppin' monsters so very much. Rob Sonic is one of my favorite double threat artists (producer/emcee). He always brings a level of incisive, lyrically crystallized, cultural critique that I respect and admire and he always brings the massive, lush soundscapes for modern dystopiated 21st century cynics like me.

"Rock The Convoy" is the first single from his forthcoming sophomore Def Jux release, "Sabotage Gigante." He's gonna be on tour with Aesop Rock this Fall across the U.S. and hopefully he will catch a little shine from the combination. The more heads who hear Rob the better it will be for Rob and the heads as well.

Who Watches The Watchmen?

Finally some new info and a poster for director Zack Snyder's (he directed 300) adaptation of the Alan Moore's DC comics classic "The Watchmen," drawn by original series artist Dave Gibbons, debuted at the San Diego Comic Con. Now, Warner Brothers has given it an official premier.

They've even cast a lot for it already. So far the cast includes, Patrick Wilson as Daniel Dreiberg/Nite Owl II, Billy Crudup as Dr. Jon Osterman/Doctor Manhattan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Edward Blake/The Comedian, Jackie Earle Haley as Walter Kovacs/Rorschach, Malin Akerman as Laurie Juspeczyk/Silk Spectre, Matthew Goode as Adrian Veidt/Ozymandias, and Stephen McHattie as Hollis Mason/Nite Owl I. Shooting begins in Vancouver, Canada in September, and the film is set for release on March 6th, 2009.

The Watchmen was originally published in '86 & '87 as a 12 issue maxi-series. If you enjoyed "V" then this movie is gonna knock your socks off. It is a claustrophobic, pre-millenial, thriller set in the backdrop of the last gasps of Cold War era paranoia - aka the mid 80's. I hope they make a good soundtrack...

The Watchmen, alongside The Dark Knight Returns and Electra Assassin are credited with the turn dark turn that comics took in the late 80's and throughout the last decade and a half. The post modern deconstruction of the superhero mythology is at this point nothing new. But when the watchmen and the dark knight returns were initially released it blew through the comic book world like a tsunami. You simply could not tell straight super hero stories anymore without looking like a naive moron. The modern graphic novel owes it's current success to Alan Moore and i for one can't wait to see this movie!!

Keith Murray drops tuesday july 31st on Koch

KOCH Records is set to release the highly-anticipated new album by acclaimed hip hop artist Keith Murray. Following his successful career as both a solo artist and a member of famed hip hop group Def Squad, Murray returns with "Rap-Murr-Phobia (Fear of Real Hip Hop)" this Tuesday, July 31st. The new album is produced by EPMD's Erick Sermon and features guest appearances by Redman and Method Man as well as Sermon. On a personal note I used to LOVE "the most beautifulest thing in this world" and I just remember thinkin' that he was insane with his wordplay and flow. I like the new album and folks should definitely check it if they want some solid east coast hip hop. I mean, who's really fuckin with Erick Sermon on production!?!? Nobody! Who can front on Keith's skills?!!? Nobody!

Everybody's already heard the single "none shall pass" but here is another track just to whet yer appetite for the full length due out in the fall. I still enjoy his work on Labor Days the most but no one can deny that along with EL-P, Slug, Madlib & MF Doom, Aes Rizzle is THE shining star of what remains of indy/underground hip hop.

Brother Reade's latest offering may be their very best yet! chemistry supersaturates the grooves of Rap Music. "Back to the beginning/ rap's first inning/ penny on the needle with the turnstile spinning," Jimmy Jamz flows on the album's explosive opener "Let's Go." Meanwhile Bobby Evans combines rib-rattling snare hits and bass kicks, flying in a sonic hook that sounds like a spaceman's thermos boiling over on the sun.

New Balance City Series 480

New Balance is releasing the city series 480 in august. Tier 1 accounts only so I'm gonna have to search to find these. I love my 480 comic series so I'm really lookin' forward to this one. Saw this on hypebeast and on the new balance-blog

New Balance 990 limited edition

Just picked up a limited edition black/purple New Balance 990. This is said to be a tribute to Japanese console games.
Note the black patent leather, perforated purple suede and embroidered rainbow logo on the heel and rainbow "N" on the tongue. Comes with white and multicolor laces, a welcome change considering how busy the colors are elsewhere.
In the technology department the shoe features a 3/4-length ABZORB EX sole (hence “990EX”) for shock absorption. ABZORB EX is the combination of NB’s premium ABZORB foam material and an outside air bubble.
These shoes are soooo dope in person! Really vibrant purple suede and the black patent leather definitely makes the shoe pop!

Originally released late 2004, MM..FOOD has been out of print for close to two years.
